Preface: Unfortunately, there is no way to enable auto-playing on mobile Safari, meaning the following guide will not work on iPhones and iPads due to business decisions by Apple. If you need autoplay features on these devices, you will need to either switch to Android tablets or Desktop PCs or Macs.

Newer versions of browsers like Chrome and Safari will not auto-play videos and sound without the user interacting with the website before. This means that our DS streams containing videos will stop playing after the video is displayed and incoming notifications in the Content Management Hub won't have sound.

In the article below you'll learn how to set up auto-playing in a few simple steps to display videos and auto-play sound in common browsers. If you're using a 3rd-party DS solution or play our streams directly on your TV sets, you can use the following example as a blueprint to configure your Digital Signage solution.

For Chrome Boxes issued by Hotel MSSNGR, we have already made the respective settings, so the boxes should auto-play videos. If you run into issues, please contact support stating the serial number of the box.

There is no way to fix this problem via software, as it's a security feature by browser vendors to prevent annoying users that visit a page. If you cannot make the respective changes, you can alternatively mute video playback by adding the URL param mute_video=true to your DS URL. Videos will then auto-play without sound.

See the short guides for Chrome and Safari below. If you are using another browser like Firefox or Opera, please check their respective settings to turn this on.

Please note that these settings only apply to one page at a time and are not global browser settings.

Chrome:

1. Go to the address you want to autoplay on, for example, https://ds.hotel-mssngr.com/hotel-mssngr/our-hotel/overview/item-detail?mode=interactive

2. Click on the button left from the URL, if the “sound” option is there toggle it. Done! If the sound option isn’t there proceed to step 3.

3. Click on Site settings

4. Search for Sound, select “Allow”. Done!

Safari

1. Go to the address you want to autoplay on, for example, https://ds.hotel-mssngr.com/hotel-mssngr/our-hotel/overview/item-detail?mode=interactive

2. Right click on the address bar and select “Settings for this website”.

3. For Auto-Play, select “Allow All Auto-Play”. Done!
